MAX DOYLE

It takes a level of understanding to capture the true essence of a person. For Max Doyle, capturing that essence has become something of an art form. As a natural born creative himself, he has an innate ability to meet people wherever they are. The accomplished Antipodean photographer has captured many well-known actors and musicians, including Billie Eilish, Emily Ratajkowski, Travis Scott and Margot Robbie. Fierce, vulnerable, unpredictable, excited – no matter where his subject shows up, Max remains completely present, curious, relaxed.

As well as being a regular contributor to Vogue, Marie Claire, Elle, Rolling Stone and Oyster, among others, Max is the founder and editor-in-chief of Doingbird Magazine, an independent art and photography magazine. He has directed award-winning short films and released several critically acclaimed records with his bands Songs and Victoria.

My greatest source of creative inspiration is… cinema, especially old movies.

My favourite piece of work so far is… my first shoot with Margot Robbie, a cover story for Oyster Magazine. It was a really fun day that brings back great memories.

My favourite location to shoot is… I’ve shot in so many amazing locations it’s hard to decide, but I’ll say Cuba, because of the variety of powerful options! Iconic buildings, epic scenery, and amazing energy/people.

The vibe on my set in three words is… fun. Passionate. Collaborative.

The artist that is on my never-fail shoot playlist… David Bowie

The format I prefer to shoot is… I like shooting on film, medium format.

The highpoint of my career so far is… when I shot 15 Vogue covers over 5 years as well as being Editor-in-Chief/Creative Director of Doingbird Magazine.

The creative dreams still on my professional wish list is… shooting a US Vogue cover in New York.

My favourite part of the job is… the exact moment the photo is taken.
